Another Body . . . Another Dollar

We work hard and deserve some fun.  A swim at the beach would be just the thing. Unfortunately I can’t get to the ocean shore. A floater wearing nothing but jewelry came in with the tide.   All the response vehicles are in the way. Who can get pass EMS, news trucks and tourists?  Not even the tourists have the desire to walk three blocks and get stuck in the parking tower.  The five dollars for parking is better spent on one of those exotic drinks. You know the green ones with oranges and pineapples on the rim and cherries in the bottom. I might as well turn this jeep around and head home.  There is no white sand between the toes today.  Everybody except Detective Wright is here. Where is he, anyway?

Rumor has that his life is about to change. The word on the street is something about his past and the Suits. That could explain his no show. According to Bay City’s Post, questions arose about a move he made on one of his preps. He probably had his reasons. He is not likely to share them. Wright is the type to kiss a few. It’s not likely that you will get him to tell. It drives the Suits crazy. The no tell thing is also why everybody on the streets seems to give him mad props.

The next likely move would be to ask his partner.  No can do. She is also MIA.  Well when my laptop comes up; I will try to find him. Oh, did I mention there are plenty of other beaches in Bay City? Around here nothing stops fun in the sun. One little body shouldn’t scare you away.  It’s just a little murder.

Murder On The Beach

Lately the call of adventure has beckons me to find out who is killing who lately.  A good spring read soothes the soul if a ten-year old glass of anything isn’t available. Besides you might need it after reading James Patterson and Maxine Paetro’s Swimsuit. That book should give everybody something to think about before hitting those beaches for summer love. That might not be a concern to those not near a beach right now.  But all is fair game in Florida most of the year.  Never believe beasts, chicks, children nor parents are safe with the monster Patterson and Paetro created. The book was good stuff but proof of their monster’s comeuppance was a little suspect.

Which brings to mind some compelling questions, do predators take holidays?  If they do, where do they go to celebrate?   What are their cocktail stories like at the office parties?  Well, I know somebody that I can call.  Well I can’t actually call Detective AL Wright.  But I can put fingers to keys to wake him up or at least join him on the next trail of blood.

Pulitzer Snubs Fiction: What’s next? Authors, Book stores, E-books, and Indies, Oh My

This week the New York times reports The Pulitzer Prize Board at Columbia University in New York declined to name a winner for the highly coveted prize for fiction. It’s an incident that has not occurred since 1977.

No surprise here.  The industry is in the middle of another wrestling match. Court battles and technology usually changes things.  Will this affect my literary appetite? Probably not, I am one of those who doesn’t take well to anyone directing my literary tastes.  I can afford to be cavalier. None of my work was even close to be on the covet list for consideration.  This isn’t sour grapes either. I am a voracious reader who thanks every nominee for their sacrifices to create work that touched our souls.  Without your work our opportunities for more visceral exercises shrink.

It’s a good thing we have the freedom to judge for ourselves. It doesn’t matter what any sanctioned entity or organization does. To you, who snubbed; shame on you.  To you whose works remains acclaimed, you lost nothing. We, the public still love your work and salute your courage. Write on you conquerors of the blank page. It is the public who are judging the privilege of keeping our work alive.
